Testimonials
Here are a selection of testimonials showing the appreciation for Clare's cakes.
Dear Clare, What a simply wonderful cake! After a lifetime of sampling fruit cake, I can tell you that this was the best ever. And the garden looked fabulous too-perhaps a second career in garden design??!! Thank you so much- it was truly gorgeous! No wonder you win medals! - Robin
It might be thought as Clare's mother I am biased towards her work. That may be the case but I feel prospective client you might like to know a little about her. As a little girl Clare loved cooking:- sponge cakes, scones and cookies. Then she graduated to savoury food and planning meals, her attention to presentation was evident from the start. From school Clare went to Westminster and then on to Cordon Bleu School of Cookery, demonstrating, teaching and qualifying as one of their chefs. Union Discount was her next step and becoming a full time mummy followed on. During all this time Clare was developing her talents with sugar craft, attending classes, reading books and much practical work. I can honestly say that I have seen only one cake duplicated, all her cakes are produced after chatting to the clients, finding out about them and what kind of cake they would like. I have seen beautiful wedding cakes, fun children's cakes, in fact cakes to suit all occasions. You will realise from all of this I am a very proud parent. - Patricia Binsted
We just had to write to give you some feedback on the cake you made for Robin's 65th Birthday. The guests who attended the garden party thought the cake looked absolutely lovely it was almost too good to cut up. Many of our guests were amazed at the detail in the miniature garden plants, pots and watering can, they thought the tiny trellis obelisk was a feat of engineering with its tiny iced structure. The cake was very well received and many people wanted to know who had made it. We "reluctantly" cut the remains of the cake and gave it to some of our neighbours and friends who described the cake as "The best fruit cake they have ever tasted" many commented that is was lovely and moist with plenty of fruit, they also appreciated the thickness of the marzipan layer and icing. We were so pleased that you were able to make the cake in a short time span and hope that we will be able to give your details to those who have expressed an interest in obtaining a cake for forthcoming celebrations. Thanks again for making such a memorable cake - Ralph and Robin
Since I have been small my mother has been making the most delicious and well presented cakes. I always love the days when I walk in from a long day at school and smell the scent of home cooked cakes. The most special time of the year is of course my birthday. As long as I can remember my mum has always sat me down a month before my birthday and asked me that question that I always wait for "what do you want me to do for your birthday cake this year". At this point my mind goes wild for different ideas to try and beat last years cake, I can always see the dread in her eyes when I start to talk of these extravagant ideas. However, she is always up for a challenge, and always makes the cakes 10 times better than I could imagine. On many occasions I have been sitting at school having my lunch with my friends, when I get out a piece of Victoria sponge, or a cookie that my mother has made, in my hand and I am just about to eat it they say, " can I have a piece". Both at primary school and now secondary school my mum has always been there to make cakes for birthdays or just for pack lunches, and at both of my schools everyone has made a compliment on my mother's cakes. - Laura Phillips
This is to commend Clare Phillips on making extremely professional cakes. She always takes into consideration the person to whom the cakes are made. My daughter's wedding cake was beautiful and showed her love of flowers and candles and of course the colour scheme of the wedding. MY husbands 70th birthday themed on the fact he is great DIY man and his love of motor bikes. In addition to the decoration, the cakes themselves are delicious. I have seen pictures of her novelty cakes, which are superb. One in particular was Dr Who's Tardis that even had chewing gum stuck to the pavement outside, reflecting the world today I truly recommend this exceptional lady. - Elizabeth Hamilton
